Speaker Bios:

Lior Schillat

Lior Schillat, Director General, Jerusalem Institute for Policy Research (JIPR)

Lior is the Director General of JIPR, a think tank that produces crucial research on Jerusalem trends. At the age of 22, he served as a senior advisor to former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, and went on to co-found the Galilaea Group, an investment firm specializing in cybersecurity and energy. Lior is the immediate past Director of ANSEC, a research institute focusing on global security challenges.  Lior has a BA in Geography and Jewish Studies from Hebrew University, an MA in Energy and Geo-Politics and an MA in International Relations from Tufts University.

Maya Halevy

Maya Halevy, Executive Director, Bloomfield Science Museum Jerusalem

For more than 20 years, Maya HaLevy has been developing a multitude of programming that promotes formal and informal science education in Israel. She initiated a strategic approach to advancing Jerusalem’s science education ecosystem, working closely with the Ministry of Education to elevate Israel’s ranking in STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and Math) education. Maya is a strong believer in the people to people approach and has cross border cooperative efforts with the European Union and science museums around the world. Maya has BA in Architecture and Town Planning from the Technion, and an MA in Public Policy from the Hebrew University.

Yonatan Avraham

Yonatan Avraham, Student Ambassador, HUstart

Yonatan is a co-founder and CEO of two start-up companies as part of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s HUStart program. (HUstart provides practical education, support, mentorships and connections needed for HUJI students and Jerusalem community members to become effective entrepreneurs.) Yonatan served as a combat paramedic in the Golani brigade, and today he volunteers as a counselor in the nonprofit organization SpaceIL. (SpaceIL is an Israeli nonprofit founded by 3 young engineers at the end of 2010, answering the Google Lunar XPRIZE challenge. SpaceIL is aiming to make history and land the first Israeli spacecraft on the Moon and to inspire a generation along the way.) In his spare time he loves to compose music, hike and take part in extreme sports.

Tamir Huberman

Tamir Huberman, VP Business Development & IT Director, Yissum

Yissum is the Research Development Company of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Ltd. founded in 1964 to protect and commercialize the Hebrew University’s intellectual property. Ranked among the top technology transfer companies, Yissum has registered over 9,300 patents covering 2,600 inventions; has licensed out 800 technologies and has spun-off 110 companies. Products that are based on Hebrew University technologies and were commercialized by Yissum generate today over $2 Billion in annual sales.

Tamir Huberman joined Yissum in 2004, and is the VP Business Development in the field of computer science and is further responsible for the technical infrastructure necessary to support Yissum's business processes and application systems. In addition, he is also the IT Director at ITTN - the Israeli Technology Transfer Organization, InnerEye and Briefcam.
