Persiko Merit Scholarship to three well deserving Canadian students who will be studying at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

The funds raised from the 2013 March Madness tournament were allocated to the Bernard J. Persiko Merit Scholarship Fund at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.  This fund was established in 2011 by long-standing Hebrew University supporter, Lorne Persiko to honour the memory of his late father, Bernard Persiko who had a great love for sports and believed that students should strive to achieve their goals through higher education.

This year’s recipients include Matthew Beattie, a third year bachelor of commerce student at Ryerson University who will be attending Hebrew U this summer to take a month long course in the “History of the Arab-Israeli Conflict”. Matthew will be applying for law school in the fall once he returns from Israel.

Michal Lipsitz , a second year honours student in economics and finance at McGill University will be attending the one year abroad program at Hebrew U before finishing off her degree.

And Canadian born Dan Illouz, currently living in Israel, is starting a PhD in political science this coming year at Hebrew U. His PHD will focus on issues of government functioning. Dan hopes his research will help bring about better governing in Israel, in Canada, and all around the world.

We wish to congratulate all the 2013 Persiko scholarships winners and we look forward to awarding more Persiko scholarships in 2014.
