TEDx, an independently organized conference similar to the wildly popular international TED Talks series – featuring a spectrum of compelling speakers across numerous disciplines and interests – is holding a sold-out, day-long conference on April 14, 2015 at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

The theme of the conference is “Inside Out,” and it includes presentations from singer David Broza, chef Assaf Granit, journalist Henrique Cymerman, choreographer Ilanit Tadmor, “consciousness coach” Tsipor Maizlick, and biotech specialist Dr. Yael Porat.

The TED series, which began in 1984 as a gathering of industry leaders in technology, entertainment and design (TED), is a nonprofit organization devoted to spreading ideas in the form of short, powerful talks lasting under 20 minutes each.

Since its inception, the TED Conference has become an international juggernaut, covering an array of topics in more than 100 languages. YouTube videos of TED presentations – on subjects ranging from psychology to international affairs – have drawn hundreds of millions of views.

Recent popular speakers included varied figures such as Monica Lewinsky, who discussed “the price of shame,” and Bill Gates, who spoke about Ebola preparedness.

While the TED Conference provides general guidance for Tuesday’s program, TEDx events are autonomous.

“In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience,” according to the conference’s website.

“TED is a global community, welcoming people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world. We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the world,” according to the TED website.

The conference is being held between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the university. A live stream of each talk will be available.
