The Richard Nixon Foundation and the Truman Institute at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem will jointly host a symposium exploring the consequential impacts and effects of the 1973 Yom Kippur War on the implementation of the Nixon administration’s foreign policy grand strategy. Specific attention will be paid to how the U.S. airlift to Israel and subsequent diplomatic overtures to Egypt, Syria, and Jordan helped diminish the influence of the Soviet Union in the Middle East, setting the stage for a peace process that led to the 1978 Camp David Accords.
