Reflections on My Time at Hebrew University
By Avi Posen, Haifa, Israel
I went to Hebrew University for a year in 2008-2009. In high school, I always knew I wanted to spend a year in Israel and specifically at Hebrew University. I had always heard such incredible things about the program there and, at the time, the thought of living in Jerusalem seemed simply extraordinary – and it was!
Studying at Hebrew U entirely changed the trajectory of my life in almost every way. I changed my career path from psychology to Jewish education and have spent the last decade working in Jewish education as a Jewish camp director, Hillel Director and a Judaic Studies High School teacher.
Through my job as a teacher, I’ve had the privilege of returning to Israel at last once a year with my students and independently as well. Just recently, my wife and I moved to Haifa where she is in medical school at the Technion University. I just began my new job as the Assistant Director of Education at Jerusalem U, a media organization that produces educational films and resources about the Jewish story. All in all, going to Hebrew U led me to where I am today, no question about it.
