Reflections on My Time at Hebrew University
Avishai Infeld – Montreal
I knew from an early age that I wanted to study at Hebrew University. Actually, my parents Rabbi Jonathan Infeld and Lissa Weinberger met there in 1993-94 while on the one-year program at the Rothberg International School at Hebrew U. I grew up frequently hearing stories about their time at Hebrew University and how much it meant to them.
When I graduated from Vancouver’s King David High School in 2019, I was very fortunate to receive a generous scholarship from CFHU to be used towards studying at Hebrew University. I was studying at McGill University at that time based in Montreal and I was all set to spend my third year in Israel, just as my parents had when everything was cancelled because of the pandemic. Yet, I was still determined, and was able to spend the fall semester of my fourth year there in 2022.
I am so glad that I was ultimately able to go as it was by far the most incredible semester of my time in university. I had been to Israel many times previously but never for more than a few weeks at a time. I took the opportunity to truly immerse myself, celebrating the holidays in different places with family and friends, attending all sorts of interesting events, and meeting fascinating people who shape the country.”
I recently concluded my degree at McGill, and I am currently the advocacy coordinator at Hillel Montreal.
