Reflections on My Time at Hebrew University
Michelle Booth – Quebec
I attended the Hebrew University International program in 1994/95 while I was living in Victoria BC. It was an experience like none other, one I would recommend to anyone interested in the journey of a lifetime.
I had travelled Europe and North America before my trip to Israel, but had never encountered such beauty and warmth, both culturally and geographically. I am a Canadian citizen and love my home, but Israel is truly one of the most beautiful countries I have ever encountered.
I will always remember the fragrant rosemary bushes outside our dorm, street side falafel stands with French fries, shopping at the market on Friday before sundown, the electric energy of Ben Yehuda Street, the mazes of the Old City, and Shabbat in Jerusalem. Israel has such a rich history, and to live amongst the ancients, if only for a short while, really is indescribable.
Attending Hebrew University was life-altering, and I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to learn Hebrew, explore, learn, grow and immerse myself in the ancient, yet modern world that Israel has to offer. I have dreamed of returning for a visit with my kids, who knows? Maybe next year in Jerusalem!
